My Favorite Song

I don't have a one overall favorite song. But if I had to choose one, it would have to be What I Got by Sublime.

The song is a simple anthem of love and optimism and a depiction of personal demons (Brad Nowell died of drug addiction). This song is self reflective of the everydayness of a life  (early in the morning, rising to the streets). It's dark, nostalgic, and tragic at the same time (Got to find a reason things went wrong)  (Fuckin'/ fighting it's all the same, livin' with Louie Dog is the only way to stay sane).

What I Got is the kind of music that I wish I composed. It's simple but it sticks to the soul and grows in you (I can play the guitar like a mother fuckin riot).


The best part of the song is where he imparts the value of life and the virtue of loving  (Life is short so love the one you got 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot) and also the carefree attitude over life's challenges (never start no static just git if off my chest, never had to battle with no bulletproof vest).

In the end, the song believes that it all comes back to you (you'll get what you deserve). Lovin' was the singer's (Bradly Nowell) legacy, and was the secret to his musical success.
